*Behind the St. George School in Tenants Harbor, Maine, there is a very overgrown
nature trail. My sixth grade class
and the Alternative Education group
is trying to restore the area and make into an outdoor learning center. In October
2004, our class went to Tanglewood's
Youth Forestry Camp in Lincolnville, Maine. While there, we slept in cabins,
and
had a lot of fun. We learned
how to use a compass. We learned to test the soil using a soil auger,
and how to pace,
and plot out land. We also got to
make a land management plan, which is a plan that highlights the most important
parts of the forest.

It was very chilly out. |

These
two friends were in my cabin; it was called The Nest. |

Before we left for camp, we were each assigned a tree to research. My tree was
the
scotch pine. To view my

*When we got back to school, we went out on our nature trail, and found our
favorite spot.
After, we had to write a persuasive letter to our community about that spot.
We had to persuade the
school community to let us include
that spot in our trail. To read my letter click on the link below.
