Adding Printers
Windows - Network
Phasers
So, you're ready to print your purchase order, but find that you have no printers installed for Windows on your computer. The simplest network printers to add are the Phasers. There are several, simple steps, but I've included screenshots for all of them.
- In Firefox, go to http://www.office.xerox.com/ (If you right-click on the link to the left, you can choose to open in a new tab or window for ease in following these directions.)
- Under "Support & Drivers" click on "See all"
- Type the name and model of the Phaser you wish to print to in the box under "Enter product name or number". In this example, I entered "Phaser 8560".
- Click the "Search" button.

- Click "Drivers & Downloads".

- Click the "Recommended" driver. I've boxed the link and drawn an arrow to it in the screenshot below; it does not have a box around it on the website. The link will only change color after you point to it.

- Click "Save File" in the box that you see next.

- Choose a location to save the file where you will find it easily, such as your Desktop.

- You'll see the Firefox Downloads window. When it finishes downloading, you can double-click on the Setup file to open it, or go to your Desktop (or wherever you saved it) and run it from there now or at some future time.

- If you see this warning, click "OK".

- You will see the files extracting and installing.

- Choose "I Agree" in the "License Agreement" window.

- The installation program will now look for available printers of the model you have chosen.

- Select from the printers available to you. I was at GVHS when I captured these screen shots. You'll note in the first image below, that only one 8560 printer was found. In the second image, when searching for 8500's, 4 were found. The printer that is highlighted in the second image is the printer located in the box near the science classrooms.

- You'll have a bit of a wait while the printer driver is installed.

- When the installation is complete, you can delete both checkmarks, then click "Finish". However, you may wish to leave "Print Test Page" checked. If you go to the printer and find your test page, you will be sure that your computer will actually print to the printer of your choice. Among other text on the page, you will see the name of the printer and the name of your computer.

- If you chose to leave "Install Support Centre" checked, you will see the window below.

- When printer installation is complete, you will see the window below. Notice that your only choice not to register is "Remind Me Later". Eventually, but not today, you will see a similar window offering you the choice to never register.

- If you decided to install the "Support Centre", you will have a shortcut on your desktop. I installed it, in my preparation for this tutorial, when I installed the 8560 Phaser. When I installed the 8500 Phaser, I left the option checked, but it didn't appear to install. When I checked the Support Centre, only the first Phaser (8560) was listed in the "Select Printer" drop down box. There are links to tutorials in the Support Centre if you think you'll have time to look at them. Otherwise, I don't see any benefit to you bothering to install it.
