Finding the Character Palette
If you are using Apple software, you may find the
choice on the "Edit" menu. If the software you are using does not have that choice on the "Edit" menu, you can show the Character Palette from the input menu.

If the input menu (the flag above) does not show on your menu, you can set it to do so in System Preferences.
- Start System Preferences
- If not available in your Dock,
click the apple on the left of your menu and choose System Preferences from the menu.

- If not available in your Dock,
- Under "Personal", select "International"

- Select the "Input Menu" tab. Be sure there is a check in the "Character Palette" checkbox.

Put a check by "Show input menu in menu bar". (The flag should appear in your menu as soon as you check the box.)
Displaying the Character Palette
As mentioned above, if you are using Apple software, you can choose
from the "Edit" menu. If you are using MS Word, or some other non-Apple software, you can display the Character Palette from the Input Menu.
- Click the flag on your menu bar.
- Choose
from the menu.
Finding Characters
If you are looking for accented characters such as: ñ and é that you have not yet added to "Favorites" -
- Select "All Characters" from the "View" choice.
- Choose the "by Category" tab.
- Open "European Scripts" and scroll down to choose "Latin". (You will not see "Latin" and "European Scripts" on the screen at the same time.)
- Use the scroll bar at the right to find the character with diacritic that you want.

- If you are using a program that will accept special fonts, you can drag the one of your choice directly from the palette to your document.

- When you have a character you wish to use many times, you can click on the settings button to add it to your favorites. Then you won't have to work so hard to find it again.
